Dan McCLean
Managing Partner
Dan McCLean is a professional investor, operating partner, and business builder with over 20 years of experience allocating capital across a wide range of markets and industries. He brings a disciplined, hands-on approach to investing, focusing on acquiring and growing high-quality operating businesses.
Prior to founding Black Walnut Capital Management, Dan spent 8 years at XPV Water Partners, where he served as a business development associate in the private equity group. In this role, he was responsible for sourcing, evaluating, and executing acquisitions for Fund II, developing deep domain expertise in companies serving the water and wastewater sectors across both industrial and municipal end markets.
In 2021, Dan founded Black Walnut Capital Management, a boutique investment firm focused on acquiring businesses focused on water, wastewater, and infrastructure renewal. As Managing Partner, he leads firm strategy, partners closely with management teams, and directs capital allocation to drive sustainable, long-term value creation.
Dan holds a Bachelor of Arts from McGill University, where he majored in Economics and minored in Finance.
He lives in the Boston area with his wife and two children.
